Be a Halfbike Ambassador
Riding a Halfbike is a whole new experience and we believe the best part of it is sharing the emotion it brings with others. So, if you happen to share our passion and excitement, join us in our mission to inspire more people to be out and active in a fun way. We’d be happy to have you on board as a Halfbike ambassador. The Halfbike project has come a long way and today thousands of people all over the world ride outside the box. We know that finding a fellow halfbiker might be a real treasure and we’d love to help this happen. On the other side, many are curious to try a Halfbike and discover what it truly is, so we want to give them a chance to test ride one locally and learn the basics from a devoted halfbiker.

What

Here is more or less what we imagine a Halfbike ambassador could be engaged with: * Spread the word about Halfbike in town * Help build local Halfbike communities * Find and connect with other keen halfbikers around, ride together and share knowledge and experience * Arrange individual test rides according to her/his availability and if keen to - help us set up, organize and execute local events. Create fun and positive ambiance and experience * Enjoy the ride, have fun and stay positive :) NB We’re always open to any kind of suggestions you might have, be it about the program itself or any kind of side initiatives you’d like to try out. Just drop us a line and we’ll do our best to help out.

How

Basically, there are two main ways to spread the word: Good old offline You probably know from experience that the Halfbike is a real conversation starter, so meeting new people who’d like to know more about it would be easy. As an ambassador, you could introduce the Halfbike to people who show interest - demonstrate how it works, let them try it or just have a chat. Whatever you feel adequate for the situation. Be sure to give your personal promo code to everyone keen to join the Halfbike adventure. Online Each ambassador will have access to a set of online tools that will help her/him connect with other halfbikers and people who want to try it. The whole idea behind the online tools is to allow you to ultimately spend more time out, enjoy your Halfbike and do it in a good company :) Locator We’ve created a locator for our website where each Halfbike ambassador can pin her/his playground on an interactive map and see if there are other pinned halfbikers nearby. The map is public and each ambassador has a dedicated profile page. Everyone interested in the Halfbike could contact the ambassador nearest to them and ask for a test ride. Currently, the locator has a built-in messaging system which allows ambassadors, halfbikers and website users to send messages to each other. Everyone’s contact details are hidden and you’ll only exchange email, phone number or other personal info with the other person if you like to. * Note that the messaging might change in the future as we are looking for a more direct way for communication (the current system is a bit clumsy). Forum The Halfbike forum is still young but to us, the best place where everyone interested in the Halfbike could share a thought or ask a question. Naturally, we hope that our ambassadors will be a vital part of it. Facebook Ambassador Group We created a closed Facebook group and only ambassadors have access to it. It is a great place to connect with each other, share some know-how or any Halfbike thoughts or ask for any advice/support from fellow ambassadors. We will also keep you up to date with all the exciting things about the Halfbike.

Commission

Each Halfbike Ambassador has a unique promo code which gives €50/$50 (Europe/Rest of the World) discount for each Halfbike order placed on our website. For each Halfbike, bought with your code, you will receive €50/$50. Once your application has been approved and after login to the Halfbike community, you'll have access to your Ambassador dashboard. There you will be able to see your promo code, customize your ambassador page, add a photo, your Halfbike story and short intro. According to your availability, you can switch your pin on and off or relocate it, if necessary.

Sharing Your Code

You can give your promo code to anyone who is interested in the Halfbike, regardless if you let her/him try the Halfbike or if you just had a chat. You can share your code with as many people as you like.

Referral Confirmation

When an order is placed with your promo code, you will receive a confirmation email notifying you of their purchase. You may also see this activity in your dashboard and all pending and completed commission payments.

Program Details

* €50/$50 commission for each Halfbike bought with a promo code * €50/$50 discount on each Halfbike order (code valid only for orders containing a Halfbike) * Commissions are paid via PayPal

Be a Halfbike Ambassador

Why

Are you keen to share the Halfbike experience? Help us get the word out! The Halfbike project has come a long way and today thousands of people all over the world ride outside the box. Now we face our next challenge - connect all these people and build strong and vital local Halfbike communities. At the same time we know that finding a fellow halfbiker to share a ride with might be a real treasure and we’d love to help this happen. On the other side, many are curious to try a Halfbike and discover what it truly is, so we want to give them a chance to test ride one locally and learn the basics from a devoted halfbiker. Riding a Halfbike is a whole new experience and we believe the best part of it is sharing the emotion it brings with others. So, if you happen to share our passion and excitement and would like to join us on our mission, we’d be happy to have you onboard as a Halfbie ambassador.

What

Here is more or less what we think our Halfbike ambassadors will be engaged with: • Spread the word about Halfbike in town • Help build local Halfbike communities • Find and connect with other keen halfbikers around, ride together and share knowledge and experience • Arrange individual test rides and help us set up, organize and execute local events. Create a fun and positive ambiance and experience • Enjoy the ride, have fun and stay positive :)

How

Basically, there are two main ways to spread the word: Good old offline: You probably know from experience that the Halfbike is a real conversation starter, so meeting new people who’d like to know more about it would be easy. Just take the bike out to a nice place nearby and they’ll inevitably pop-up. The ambassador’s job consists of introducing the Halfbike to people who show interest. You could demonstrate how the bike works, let them try it or just have a chat. Whatever you feel adequate for the situation. Online: Each ambassador will have access to a set of online tools that will help him connect with other halfbikers and people that want to try it. The whole idea behind the online tools is to allow you to ultimately spend more time out, enjoy your Halfbike and do it in a good company :) Locator: We’ve created a locator for our website where each Halfbike ambassador can pin his playground on an interactive map and also see if there are other pinned halfbikers near him. The map is public and each ambassador will also have a dedicated profile page. This way, everyone interested in the Halfbike could contact the ambassador nearest to them and ask for a test ride. The locator also has a built in messaging system, which allows ambassadors, halfbikers and website users to send messages to each other. Therefore setting up a ride with a fellow halfbiker(s) or a demo for a person eager to try the Halfbike will be easier. Everyone’s contact details will remain hidden and you’ll only exchange email, phone number or other personal info with the other person if you like to. Event maker: This will allow any ambassador to create an event on Facebook which will also be pinned on the locator. In addition, notifications about the event will be sent to all halfbikers and subscribers in the area. Forum: The Halfbike forum is still young but to us, the best place where everyone interested in the Halfbike could share a thought or ask a question. Naturally, we hope that our ambassadors will be a vital part of it.

Commission

Once your application has been approved you'll be able to create a profile and login to your community dashboard. There, you'll find your unique promocode and referral link to share with anyone who is interested in the Halfbike. The promocode gives the customer 5% discount when applied at checkout and for each order placed using either your code or link you will receive a 10% commission of the order amount.

Sharing Your Code and Link

You can give your code to anyone that you meet and is interested in the Halfbike. It's up to you to decide the best way to do this you regardless if you let him try the Halfbike or just had a chat. You can share your referral link directly through email, Facebook, and Twitter with as many people as you like.

Referral Confirmation

When an order is placed with either your promocode or referral link, you will receive a confirmation email notifying you of their purchase. You may also see this activity in your dashboard.

Beginner's Guide
Riding a Halfbike is unlike anything you have tried before. It is a totally new skill one has to learn from scratch and both brain and body need time to adapt to the new movements. Please start with this thought in mind and don’t expect to master it overnight. But it is worth it - riding a Halfbike is a wonderful new way to move around, a great exercise tool to keep brain and body in shape, it trains balance, reflexes and endurance in gentle to the back and joins way and it is fun! Over the past few years, after many test rides and observations, we learnt that there is no shortcut from beginner to pro when it comes to a Halfbike. It took us a while to find out that there’s a pattern most people follow while learning. The graphic below illustrates the main phases people usually go through.

Assembly

If you have a box full of Halfbike in your hands, get ready for the next step. We highly recommend watching the video below in advance. It will help you put all pieces together in the easiest way and assemble your Halfbike properly. Use the video as a guideline and follow the steps in the assembly manual that you'll find in the box (also available
here) * The video tutorial for Halfbike 2 is here.

Learning

You should now have a Halfbike standing by your side. Take a moment and try to remember what it felt like the first time you rode a bicycle and all the excitement from trying something new. Ride safe and always use personal protective equipment including a helmet. And most importantly, enjoy your new Halfbike :) Here are a few tips that should make the learning process smooth and more enjoyable: • Find an open and flat area with a smooth pavement • Relax your hands on the handlebar, don’t squeeze too hard as this will not give you extra stability. Put one foot on a pedal and push with the other leg to get some speed • Your first goal is to find your balance and ride in a straight line, leave turns for later • Look ahead and not down. This will greatly improve your balance • Give yourself time to adapt to the new movements and do not forget to have fun! • Relax and try to let go of control • If you start to lose your balance, let go of the Halfbike and try to step/jump to the side • Be cautious for your own safety and the safety of those around you • Try shifting your body weight backwards while braking, this will soon become intuitive • Remember, all you need is a bit of determination, positive attitude and practice, practice, practice. Before you know it, you’ll be a blast!

Maintenance

Check weekly to ensure that all nuts and bolts on the Halfbike are securely fastened. That includes the ones on the truck and the QRs on the handlebar. Keep the tires well inflated, we recommend a tire pressure of 3.5 bars/50 psi for all three tires. This will make riding your Halfbike easier and more еnjoyable. Keep the chain clean and well lubricated just as you would do on a regular bicycle. The same applies to all other moving parts. Some basic cleaning will increase their lifetime.

Community Tools

We would like to introduce to you the community tools and all the ways to stay connected for it is always more fun to share the ride. To explore them, please go to the Community Section of our website. Head to Stories if you would like to read a selection of inspiring Halfbike stories from all over the world or if you’d like to share yours. You will find numerous independent and detailed reviews there too. Look at your Playground to check if there are other Halfbikers around you and get in touch if you’d like to share a ride. Browse the Halfbike Forum for a solid database of know’how, tips and tutorials, answers to all the FAQ and much more. There you can find fellow Halfbikers and members of the local Halfbike club or start one. The Halfbike Club in Strava is for everyone keen to track and share more about their rides and achievements. The Halfbike Referral Program is for everyone, keen to spread the Halfbike magic locally or just eager to find a riding buddy. Please do get in touch if you’d like to further engage with the project and become part of our Ambassador fleet. You will unlock all the functionalities of the Halfbike community after you create a profile there. This will give you access to your personal dashboard where you will be able to specify your playground, view your personal promo code and referral link, send messages to other Halfbikers and keep track of all your conversations.

Accessories and Spare Parts

Another thing we constantly work on are the Halfbike accessories. So, if you are in search of the perfect lights or fenders, a helmet or a bell, a travel bag or a Halfbike t-shirt, replacement tires or any other Halfbike specific part, browse our selection in the Accessories Section.

Support

If at some point you need any advice or support, head to the Halfbike Forum and get know’how from other members of the family. We, too, will be an email away at support@halfbikes.com. Don't be shy, say Hi and a member of our team will respond as soon as possible. :) Enough reading, it’s time for a ride :)

PRODUCTION + SHIPPING UPDATE SIZES | COLOURS | ACCESSORIES

SHIPPING SCHEDULE
We are running a bit behind schedule from our initial plan because some of the components arrived with a huge delay. We work to catch up and compensate for some of it but are still about a month behind. Meaning that your Halfbike will be delivered by the end of September and not by the end of August, as promised before. We know you are all eager to start riding as we are eager to start shipping. We will keep you posted and really hope no more nasty surprises lay ahead.
PRODUCTION UPDATE
HANDLE | Prior to beginning mass production, a production trial, also known as a “Pilot Build”, is usually built and tested. We’ve been tinkering with an idea for a different handle material for a long time, but it somehow always slipped away and we never dared to make this step in the past. Yet, as we are determined to ship the best Halfbike ever this summer and autumn, not someday in the future, we decided that speeding up the tests was worth it. After all, it’s never too late to improve. We are excited to share with you that your Halfbike will come with an all new aluminum handle. As much as we love the old plywood handle, it was time to step up. In case you’re wondering what this means - an even stronger, sturdier and long lasting Halfbike that will stay intact rain or shine. And all this made possible while keeping the riding experience at its best. Even though this was not part of our initial plans, we feel that this improvement is worth all the efforts and complications. We’ll cover the additional manufacturing costs associated with the change of material. COLOURS | Over the past few years our community taught us a great lesson - people are colourful. This is why sticking to “you can choose any colour as long as it is black” simply felt wrong. We picked out eight custom colours, made samples and they all look great, hooray! :)
SO, WHAT’S NEXT?
Within a couple of weeks we will send you a personalized link to configure your Halfbike. You will be able to choose a custom colour and, if you’d like, add accessories and add-ons to your order and then complete your payment. Last but not least, you will have to fill in your height, weight, the so called feet-to-hands distance and choose the profile of the terrain you will ride on. All this info will help us build your Halfbike to fit you best. Please see below detailed info on how to take the measurements and why we need them + the colours and accessories you will be able to choose from.
SIZES
We need a few measurements to determine what Halfbike will fit you best. Please take them carefully for a more enjoyable ride. According to the rider’s height and feet-to-hands measurement we will determine the height of the handle. Based on your weight we will choose the optimal spring stiffness. Last but not least - gear ratio. We have three sprocket sizes to choose from depending on each user case. This subtle gear ratio variation will optimize your Halfbike for riding on flat ground, small inclines or hills respectively. Here is how to measure the so called feet-to-hands measurement plus a few photos with the do's and don'ts. That’s actually a key metric, so please see the instructions in advance and follow them when taking the measurement. You'll need a pair of comfortable outdoor shoes /suitable for riding/, a measuring tape, a stick and a buddy to take the measurement. Hеre are a few key notes to keep in mind: * Use a stick/pipe/broom/etc., we need the distance to the centre of the stick and not the one to your fingertips * Please ask someone to help you and do not try to take the measurement by yourself * Align your back, shoulders and heels to a wall and keep them there * Do not bend, front/back or left/right * Your hands should be fully relaxed pointing down under their own weight |close to your hips|. Don’t try to stretch further down nor fold them in the elbows
COLOURS
Black is standard for the Halfbike, all other colours are regarded as custom and cost additional $50/€50. Here’s what we have for you :)
ACCESSORIES
Here is more info on all accessories and add-ons we can offer at this point. We’ve always tried to make the Halfbike better suited to various conditions and user case scenarios. Hopefully, these small gadgets will enable you to spend more time riding and enjoying your Halfbike. LIGHTS | We’ve prepared two different sets of lights. They both aim to make you more visible on the road and improve safety, especially in low light conditions. The rear light is identical for both sets. It is only the front light that differs. All lights are LED and USB rechargeable. Here’s how they look: SEE BY SET | Front light, white, 750 lumens, 5 different modes, USB rechargeable, up to 18 hours run time, hand strap when used as a hand held torch + a mount for a regular bicycle | Rear light, red, 15 lumens, 3 different modes, USB rechargeable, up to 18 hours run time. BE SEEN BY SET | Front light, white, 40 lumens, 3 different modes, USB rechargeable, up to 12 hours run time | Rear light, red, 15 lumens, 3 different modes, USB rechargeable, up to 18 hours run time. FENDERS | A set of front and rear fenders for those rainy days. A must, if you like to keep your feet dry and your clothes clean. REFLECTORS | The set includes 4 spoke white stickers and branded ankle band, also in white. BELL | A minimalist design bell by Knog (another great Kickstarter project). It won’t take much space on your handlebar plus it has a great alerting sound. In addition, it will come pre-mounted on your handlebar. LIQUID SEALANT | Shall you choose to add it, we will fill all tires of your Halfbike with liquid sealant, thus greatly reducing the risk of a puncture. TRAVEL BAG | Designed to help you transport your Halfbike safely and comfortably. You can use the Halfbike’s back wheels to turn it into a wheeled luggage or carry it around using the shoulder strap. Our travel bag can be checked-in as a regular piece of luggage on a plane, bus or train. T-SHIRT | We designed our brand new T-shirts in the spirit of the Halfbike company and to celebrate the release of our latest model. The artwork is made by a friend of ours and a great Halfbike enthusiast - Georgi Petev. You can find more of his work at @coffeeaftereight. The T-shirts are handmade from pure cotton by a small local company - Almost a brand. See how they look below: Those of you who are keen to follow the step by step progress of the Halfbikes are most welcome to have a look at the
detailed updates we post on Kickstarter. Cheers, the Halfbike Team

Halfbike 2 vs Halfbike 3

Size

The image above makes a size comparison between Halfbike 2 (in blue) and Halfbike 3 (in red). The front tire on Halfbike 3 is 18" compared to 20"on the Halfbike 2. As a result, the Halfbike got more compact and it is now even easier to take it anywhere with you.

Gears

More gears plus increased gear range. Halfbike 3 is now better suited to anything a city could throw at it. You can ride comfortably on an even more diverse terrain. A new state-of-the-art hub by Sturmey Archer makes all this possible. It has 4 gears (compared to 3 on Halfbike 2) and larger gear range (210%). The gear ratio on 1st gear is similar on both Halfbike 2 and 3. So, the extra gear range goes towards the upper spectrum, making it better at maintaining higher speed for longer rides on flat ground with less effort. Last but not least, the new hub is more silent and lacks the distinct clicking noise that Halfbike 2 had.

Brakes

Halfbike 2 has a modified U that locks the rear wheels. Halfbike 3 has a drum brake integrated into the front hub. It stops really efficiently now and the brake is working perfectly even for emergency stops. The new brakes are pretty much maintenance free and the performance will stay consistent with time and in all weather conditions.

Foldable

We added a quick release system for even easier folding. Folding uses the same principle as on Halfbike 2, but you can now do it faster and effortlessly.

Intuitive Control

All people who have tried the prototypes say that the new model is easier to handle and more intuitive. There are subtle changes to the Halfbike’s geometry and proportions. They all add up making it more maneuverable, ergonomic and user friendly.

Handle

The handle on Halfbike 2 is made of impregnated plywood while Halfbike 3 has an all aluminum handle. In addition the handlebar on Halfbike 3 is wider - there is more space for your hands on it, compared to Halfbike 2

Lubrication
We know from experience that riding a Halfbike that squeaks can get annoying over time. That’s why we advise you to maintain it and lubricate it properly to avoid such noises. Below are a few things that you can try: 1 If the squeaking comes from the rear section of the Halfbike there’s an easy fix that don’t require to disassemble the bike. All it takes is spraying a little WD40 or other liquid lubricant on the bolt (pivot) that holds the truck to the frame and on the tail of the frame itself. Than Afterwards wipe off the excess lubricant with a dry towel. 2 Be extra cautious to avoid spraying lubricant near the brakes or over the brake disks on the wheels as this will greatly affect their efficiency. 3 If the steps above haven’t removed the squeaking, than the bolt (pivot) that holds the truck to the frame may need to be cleaned from dust and dirt and lubricated. It comes with a thin layer of grease by default. You may have noticed this when you assembled your Halfbike for the first time. However it could wear out over time so it’s not a bad idea to check it every once in awhile. 4 We noticed that when water or moisture are trapped between the silicone washer and the frame it tends to make noise as well. So if the noise comes from the handlebar you can remove the washers and reassemble the Halfbike without them. 5 Applying a thin layer of candle wax (paraffin) to the lower section of the handlebar will help further reduce any squeak coming from the handlebar. You may use a regular candle for the job. 6 We also advise you to keep the chain and sprocket clean and lubricated. This will increase their longevity and make for a smooth ride. Only a chain lube should be used for the job.

Learning
Do you remember what it felt like the first time you rode a bicycle? All the excitement from trying something new? Learning how to ride a Halfbike from scratch and improving your skills would certainly be an amazing new experience! We recommend that you find an empty open space with a smooth pavement. Having a little patience and determination will surely help as well. Learning to ride a Halfbike from scratch takes time and practice so don’t expect to just pop on and cruise away. Imagine learning to ride a bicycle for the first time. Most people are able to get the basics and ride in a straight line in under 10-15 minutes. All starts with feeling the ride and finding your balance. From then on riding will gradually start to feel less of a struggle and more fun. Have in mind that it’s more challenging than it may seem from the videos. However it only takes a few days of practice for most people to be able to ride with such an ease. The two wheels at the rear make steering possible but don’t provide extra stability. The moment that you step on either pedal the bike will start leaning to the same direction and you have to counteract using your body weight and handlebar. Push off with one leg to get up to some speed. It’s significantly easier to balance when moving faster compared to when you’re still. Your first goal is to ride in a straight line, so don’t try to turn at the beginning. It’s not as easy as it may seem. Try to relax and find your balance. The handlebar will help you balance but keep in mind that it takes very little effort to do so. Be gentle with it! Your arms need to be totally relaxed. Putting too much force on the handlebar won’t improve your balance and usually means you’re doing it wrong. Turning the Halfbike works by shifting your weight to either direction. A gentle push on the handlebar is all that it takes to start moving in the desired direction. Don’t try to turn or twist the handlebar either as this won’t help you steer unlike on a bicycle. Always move the handlebar sideways instead. If you feel like you are losing your balance, just let go of the Halfbike and try to step to the side. You’ll probably find jumping off quite easy and intuitive, as if you are just continuing to walk or run. Attempting to remain on the Halfbike until the last moment rather than just jumping off may result in a fall. Be cautious for your own safety and the safety of those around you. Learning takes time and practice. Be patient and don’t get disappointed if you don’t master it overnight. Riding safely should always come first.

Team
191213 46094 halfbike team Here’s a brief intro to who we are and what drives us, apart from the Halfbike. Martin & Mihail are architects and true partners in crime who share a vision for a better world and truly believe less is more. They stay guided by their passion for the outdoors and core belief that we, humans, are born to move. So, when everything becomes too complicated, we need to push hard on that reset button and get our personal time offline. Driven mostly by our curiosity about alternative transport systems we had a wild idea to create a new vehicle from scratch, using left-over bicycle parts that dusted in the attic for ages. But what started from a toy to play around with, evolved into a real product. Ever since the very first prototypes we felt the Halfbike idea was revolutionary. But an idea is worth nothing until brought to life, right? What looked like a real product back in 2014 greatly evolved during the last five years. Only with the support from our first backers did we manage to start this adventure and learn the craft of making bicycles. Today, thousands of people in 90 countries ride the Halfbike and keep on sending ideas and recommendations, urging us to improve. We grow together. Packed with all the feedback we received and with our personal experience, we went back to the drawing board one more time. We’re excited to say that the Halfbike is now complete and that the user experience has finally been perfected. So now, it is as good as it was in our wildest dreams. :) Through the years and along with the Halfbike, our team grew steadily. We believe that hacking the well established order, with small but confident steps, can make our future brighter. We believe in local manufacturing - it is our way of keeping our business fair and sustainable. That’s why each Halfbike is handmade in our workshop in Europe. But there is more. We chose to work only with direct customers. This helps us grow together and the feedback from our clients keeps us up-to-date and on track. Kickstarter taught us an important lesson, one we always get back to. “Listen!”. We are devoted to keeping this direct communication and it truly means a lot to us. The synergy flows both ways. The result is the best Halfbike possible, straight from our workshop to your home, without involving any middlemen and the complexity they bring. That simple. P.S. So you got this far? :) There is one more thing we’d love to share with you. Our hectic life and the urging need for a reset were the inspiration for the short movie below. It explains what we believe in and the philosophy that sparked the Halfbike project in the first place. Enjoy it!
