I bought this crazy machine with full intentions of riding from home in Manhattan downtown to the marina where I sail from in Battery Park City. The thought of cruising up to the boats on the Halfbike thrilled my sense of adventure and I'd be the talk of the sailing club. It quickly became clear that the 7 mile ride would be too much for my less than stellar thighs and I was kind of disappointed.
However, I despise going inside to get a workout.
The second reason I opened my wallet for this unknown vehicle to enter my life was that, at the very least, I could use it as an excuse to delay joining a gym. The cost is worth about 3 months of membership so if I used this a few times a week I could smugly walk past Equinox while mumbling something to the effect of, "You'll never get me..."
And ... it's worked.
I love riding this thing and it's motivated me to get out and exercise a lot more than expected. A lot.
My initial rides of 15 minutes and a mile or 2 in the park have turned into hour long expeditions around NYC where I'm panting 90% of the time but can't stop having fun and turning down another street just to extend the ride time.
Those not so stellar thighs have become stronger.

Why ride hunched over on a road bike, when you can stand tall, rising above your surroundings?
In April of 2017, I had been standing for 15 years at my desks at home and work. I had just retired and bought a Halfbike for the challenge, and it looked like fun. The bike arrived in two days, and assembly took a leisurely hour. For my first ride, I just stood on the Halfbike, coasted down a gentle hill for a few hundred meters, then walked back up and did it again. Within 30 minutes, I was pedaling comfortably in a straight line. Within a week, I was at ease with turns and uneven surfaces. Within a month, I routinely rode for two hours on paved paths in a forest preserve.
I've since moved to the Raleigh area in North Carolina (USA), and I still love riding my Halfbike. I find myself smiling most of the time, saying "hello" to often startled strangers, who have never seen a Halfbike. I occasionally ride along with bikers and runners who are curious about my Halfbike and have questions.
It can be a challenge to learn to ride. The experience reminded me of learning to ride a bicycle as a child. And like that experience, I loved the sense of accomplishment after mastering the Halfbike. For me, the stand-up tricycle was like a combination of a unicycle and a skateboard. The difference between riding a road bike and a Halfbike is the difference between walking and dancing. Riding is a whole-body feeling of flow-motion.

I love my half bike!
Yep, it's got a learning curve. But stick with it! The "learning curve" the half bike folks show is pretty accurate, you think you can't, then maybe you can, then you think you're not getting better (for a longish time) then suddenly it's intuitive! I'm 64 years old, not particularly athletic, and I'm digging it. My kids and grandkids all borrow my bike when they come to my house - I think I'm going to have to buy some more so we can race!

My Halfbike came in July 2017 and I was saving money ever since I saw the pre-order. During the long wait, I checked videos of how to ride. It is different from anything I had tried before. The learning curve is not that hard (I had prepared for something really) but it is so damn fun. It's a challenge and a new motor skill. After a few minutes, there was a click and I could grasp how the balance worked, even if I could still not do it and after a couple of days I could actually ride it. Now, I just step on it and pedal, and it is as natural as a bike. The balance, though, still offers daily subtle delightful improvement opportunities. We do get to try and trust our body, our instinct, and learn to rely on our sense of balance and ability to react. The halfbike itself is good quality, feels good, as you progress, you will start to use the 3 gears, if you chose that model, and love the humming of the gears. The halfbike team is great, their support is amazing, and they will treat you not as a number but as a person. This is a great product, made by good people.

For me to buy the Halfbike has been a punch of energy and joy. It lets me enjoy riding it and experience another way to do sport. At the same time, it makes me feel fit and happy. I meet people when I ride it and go to parks or around the cities. I visit different cities and it let me move quicker than walking as well as enjoying the ride and do sport.
At the beginning it is a bit difficult and tiring because it depends very much of your balance on the Halfbike and your shape, but once you get it, the curves are very exciting and you get fit quickly without impact in your joints.

What started as a toy to play around on, for three days, turned out to be a complete game-changer and has become an essential piece of tool in my Ultra-Running training.
After learning the basic skills in a parking basement, it was taken on a longer ride, to learn to master it in the daily rush-hour traffic in Copenhagen. First day went surprising well, and the distance was increased to +50km over the next couple of days.
The biggest surprise was that it gave the exact same feeling in my body afterwards as the same distance covered in running would give me, but without the pounding to my joints and feet. The way you stand while riding it, the movement of the legs/feet are similar to the motion used while running.
That was a year ago (Summer ’16), today it is incorporated in the training program as second to the running itself, and it is the single best contributor to developing endurance for multi-days Ultra-Running races without risking an overload or injury.
The trips now range between 70-90km HalfBike after my running session, some days the running is skipped completely and it easily ends up with +100km on the HalfBike.
A keeper for sure.

Unique, amazingly fun, great workout, quality through and through, great conversation piece, and I could say more! My first attempt to ride my Halfbike I asked myself, "Can I really ride this?" At 70 years young it only took me 20 minutes to learn to ride. I have been riding my Halfbike for about 2 months now and you will never find me without full safety protection, even though I thankfully have never had to test it! If you like adventure and a good challange I highly recommend you give the Halfbike serious consideration! You will NOT be disappointed I assure you! Happy Halfbiking in your neighborhood! Aloha! One of the most awesome things on this planet. It is good that you have 14 days to send the bike back, because you might seriously consider it. Resist that though, and give the bike a chance. Or even many, you will not regret it. After four days my biggest achievement with the halfbike was driving around 250 metres in a straight line, without falling. And after a 45-minute session I could barely walk, as the muscles needed to ride the halfbike are rarely used otherwise (unless you live on the top of the Eiffel tower). Anyway, I started to love it. That feeling when the bike is finally riding and I am able to control it is very rewarding and definitely makes up for a really steep learning curve. After a few weeks I am able to quite comfortably drive for around 4 kilometres - and it all comes naturally, without thinking. Despite that, I know that the halfbike is definitely not for everyone. You need a lot of motivation and will to want to learn it (and master it), but at least to me it is definitely worth every second spent with it.
All the best, Miki

Wow! I'm blown away by the Half Bike. I've had so much fun the past two weeks riding it. Definitely had the early challenges of balancing and getting started but now I'm able to go blocks or miles on some rides without stopping and it's amazing. Lots of people have asked about it and I've been letting them try it themselves. They find it fun and a good challenge.
Loving it more and more and since the weather has been nice it's fun to use in the city.
Thank so much and hope you're doing well!

I will say that the first couple of times I rode my half bike I thought I made a mistake. I was determined to get comfortable on it. I rode it everyday for thirty minutes for a week. Now I'm jumping curbs turning heads and Love riding my halfbike II. I put myself in tight situations on different sidewalks and it only makes me better at riding. I am completely happy with my bike and the service I received when purchasing my Halfbike II. My daughter is really enjoying it too.

I felt obliged to tell you my experience with my halfbike. I got it around 5 months ago, almost 6. Two weeks later I tried to use it (at a parking lot) and I felt very, very frustrated because I could not do it. So I kind of said: when I have more time and a correct place to practice I will. So that day happened just the last day of the year (yesterday) and I can tell you that, after leaving my thoughts about being too difficult, leaving my stupid thoughts of "i cannot do it- i will fall down" I just got to my super halfbike and did it. I just let my fear go away, loosened up, trusted myself, did not fight with the bike trying to control it.... and... voila!! That was it! i just did it!
Well, I guess it may sound exaggerated... but this action just changed my vision of all things in my life: just let the stupid fear go away, just trust yourself, just do not try to control things... loosen up and everything will work at the end.
So, my friends, my halfbike, believe it ir not, has just given me a life lesson. And you, as the creators, are part of it. So thanks for that!!! I needed to tell you.
Big hug from México!

I'd like to let you guys know that I LOVE my new halfbike! I've only had it 2 days and I am addicted. There is a learning curve but after an hour I had going straight down pat. Next up is turning lol. I am surprised at how many muscles you use for balancing/riding... cause they're all sore lol. This is an exciting way to ride and stay in shape! You guys have an AWESOME product!!!

I got mine last Wednesday, right before Thanksgiving so I was able to spend a bit of time on it (particularly with the unseasonably warm weather). It does take a bit of getting used to. So, I took the approach of trying to stand on it balanced with no movement and then pushed forward. Taking that approach got me started relatively quickly and within about 10 or 15 minutes of use I was able to just jump on and start riding. Turning took a bit more practice - I was riding up and down the street turning around at each end and I found that I was more unstable on left turns and it took more time to get around that way without jumping off than it did turning to the right (perhaps because my right side is stronger?). My daughter took this video on Thanksgiving day:

As you may suspect I am really fascinated about the Halfbike and the way of movement on a it.
Even after a long day work, I usually take my bike at 9:00 pm for a ride of at least half an hour as a personal workout.
And although I have got a lot of troubles with my knees (cross-bounds and menisci are heavily damaged since years and decades) I've got the impression, that the way of movement is much better than on a normal bike: all the muscles of the leg are required and I feel a strong stabilization within after training. That's my personal experience.

My halfbike arrived from the other side of the world within 5 days. It was very easily assembled. I a cyclist and do a lot of road miles on a solo bike and also a tandem and abit of mountain biking aswell. My apartment carpark was a great place to relearn how to ride a bike. the half bike is a new ball, game but easily mastered. Took me maybe 20 minutes to get the basic is and be confident enough to head out of the car park. First and foremost a half bike is fun and it's a great urban cruiser. That's what I got it for, so I can go to local cafes etc without having to put cleats and cycling shoes on to ride ,my other bikes, so convent to go to the beach, park or cafe wearing street shoes and clothes. Everyone notices the halfbike and comments. I've let loads of people have a go on it, everyone loves it. I think it's easiest to get a beginner used to the steering motion, by putting one foot on the frame between the pedals and scooting it like a scooter for a minute or so just to get the hang of how it feels and turns. I've since fitted a universal MTB mud guard so I don't get a wet crutch riding through puddles. I've also done a couple of 12km rides on it. Although I had read they're not recommended for over 5km. If you are fit and used to cycling it's not hard to do 10km on it. You feel it more in your calves and front of your quads than a normal bike. Love by halfbike a great invention and it's my 4th bike in my garage but the most used now.

Dear Halfbike users or potential users:
Riding a Halfbike would be the best thing you would do on your day; not only because everyone in town would look at you but also because of the fun that it takes on learning this new sport.
Once you jump up on a Halfbike the first hought is: "I won´t be able to ride this in my life". Why? because it´s something you have never done.
It´s not like surfing if you have done snowboarding, not like wakeboarding if you have done skate or waterskiing if you have done snow ski before.
This is something your body has to experience for the first time and it´s actually amazing how fast you get used to this new movements.
Me myself have had a blast of fun specially sharing this with friends. First time I showed everyone the Halfbike we were at a barbeque and I showed up riding fast and making turns with it. Everyone was stoked; they hadn´t seen that thing on their lifes and everyone wanted to try.
It´s fun to see how people try to get used to the Halfbike and how some get used to the movements very fast.
Next step for me: start jumping and doing tricks because I´m already too used to be faster than cars in town (hahaha).
If you´re thinking on a Halfbike go and try it. I´m sure you would like it!

I haven't had my half bike long, a few weeks, but I love it ! It is great fun, it doesn't take long to ride in a straight line (my advice is watch all the videos you can - they really help) - it's going round corners that takes some time to master - I still am finding myself over doing the corner :) I even have managed to get my teenage daughter on the bike and riding very quickly.
I love that I don't need to get changed into any special kit or shoes like I do for my road bike. The half bike is portable and light and very well constructed.
I have made a conscious decision that if I need to run out for anything and it is within a few Miles/Kilometres that I will not ride in the car, but take my half bike. I live on the South Coast of the UK and have ridden the local promenades and towns in my area and had lots of looks and even more people stop me and want to know more - even one guy stop me whilst shopping one evening in a local store, asking me questions and asked for try :)
I have had an issue as well and regrettably, however the half bike team were supportive and responsiveness and everything was sorted and I was on my way once again.
I plan to take my half bike with me anywhere and everywhere (even abroad) and ride every possible place I am able. I would recommend buying one of these super bikes, as along as you keep calm and learn in short sessions you will be fine. If you see my race around the Hampshire, UK area on a half bike and you want a try, just shout and hopefully I will hear you and stop whilst having fun and practicing on my cornering :)
Have fun on your half bike !!!
And Half Bike Team - thank you for this superb machine - I wish I had purchased one sooner.

Start a new ability at 49 is an amazing challenge. Start to use me Halfbike was incredible, It filled me with new energies, and fun. It's been a long time since I had so much fun starting something new.
In the other hand, me body receive all the benefits of physical exercises, but I need to use for short periods of time, because it is demanding, and need training.
Don´t worry about the learning curve, for me was a couple of test, and only has one minor scrach in me knee.
I´m really love me new Halfbike, and it is fabulous.

Wow, since I first watched the video on you tube, I have wanted a halfbike, unfortunately since I newly immigrated to Australia, it was just a pipe dream. Fortunately for me someone here bought one and didn't like it, and I was able to get one for a fraction of a new one and it's in really good shape. Learning to ride has been a challenge and so much fun. I love the way it moves, I love the work out it gives you, I love the shape and design, it's certainly easy on the eyes, but most importantly I love the way it turns peoples head's, in true Australian fashion it's been nicknamed a "halfie"
Guillaume L. - FR / 15.09.2019
I love my Halfbike 3! It's super fun to ride!
I was initially a bit worried with the learning curve, as I had been warned that it can take a while to get used to that very special machine, but I was pleasantly surprised that after an hour, I was able to have fun with it. And after a few days, I was at ease with it. I'm probably not a smooth riders like on the gorgeous promotional videos we've seen, but it's really nice to cruise on the Halfbike.
It's also pretty funny to see all those faces, those smiles, of the people I came across in the street, wondering what this machine is, or how cool it looked :-)
I highly recommend the Halfbike to folks who want to have fun driving something very different!
Zaki B. - AE / 15.09.2019
Cycling on a Halfbike is a serious full body workout! All major muscles are engaged and you become a mindful about the road and surrounding!
I have Halfbike 2.O and just purchased 3.O and I am happy with the communications with the team behind this invention! They are supportive and problem solving.
Halfbike isn’t for anyone! It is for a selected few who want to beat aging in style!
Todor P. - BG / 14.09.2019
Halfibke 3 is the next best thing after Halfbike 2 came to light. It is much more stable, maneuverable and offers a serious joy boost to the riding experience. The front brake makes it even more safer, while the new gears help you climb some pretty steep hills:)

A lot of fun, great way to exercise and a convenient way to move about in an urban setting.
Nancy Demarco D. - US / 12.09.2019
Where to start? I had been coveting a Halfbike for quite a while, when the 3 was offered. I made the commitment within days of the offering. Having read about it and having watched many videos, I understood there would be a significant learning curve – it has been 57 years since I learned to ride a bike, and this would be unlearning those reflexes (or putting them aside) to make room for new pathways in my brain.
I had it shipped to my office, to prevent it being stolen off my porch and to have help building it (lots of young cycling enthusiasts and engineers in the office). It arrived, and with help (shout out to Austin in particular!!!), it was assembled.
I have been practicing, first getting balance, riding a straight path, mild turns, big figure 8s, and now tightening those. While I am in decent shape, lots of recent, personal demands (and aging in general) have impinged upon my exercise routines and diminished my stamina. So - this also required building that up.
Riding the Halfbike is exhilarating… on so many levels: when you get some balance and can safely generate enough speed to coast a bit, standing straight-legged, one foot forward, one in back, wind in hair – it feels like it did when I was little, learning to ride a bike. With some scabbed knees to boot (though those came later, learning to do tighter turns).
Focusing on one thing at a time (that’s work in itself, intentionally disengaging muscle memory and habits), and then moving on to another, as you improve, I found rereading and reviewing videos, provided riding tips I was then able to employ. Relaxing your grip is intentional until, with practice, it becomes habitual.
And because you lose momentum quite quickly when you are gliding, you don’t get to ‘rest’ much; so that requires muscle engagement almost continually. And that’s an adjustment made with practice as well. To build up the desired endurance, along with the skills, I have begun to increase the times of sustained riding (NO stopping), bit by bit … 15 minutes no stopping, 17 minutes, 20 minutes, etc. This required finding a space to practice where I wouldn’t be distracted or disturbed much. A large, almost empty parking lot, with many tree islands, has been ideal in addition to riding in parks with paved paths and quieter roadways.
I have been riding about 5 weeks, usually on the weekends and once or twice during the week. I have fallen twice. I can really feel it when my body is tired; I definitely get sloppy then and revert to habits that do not work on the Halfbike. So stopping after 20 sustained minutes of riding for a break of just a few minutes makes a huge difference. That allows some processing time and hopping back on, I can see the improvement.
I think the way this demands learning, developing the pathways for balance and skill, the physicality of creating new muscle memory, is incredibly stimulating for your brain. At 61, I think the benefits of making this commitment are innumerable and I already feel like I want to continually find new activities that require this type of learning curve… to keep mind and body flexible.
Love it!!! A commitment to time and patience, well worth it.
I suggest gloves of some sort and sacrificial clothing and/or safety equipment for learning. (Admittedly, I am no graceful athlete, so you may not need these items.)
A C. - HK / 12.09.2019
Its not as difficult to ride as I originally thought. You can feel your whole body muscle workout when riding it. The rear wheel steering is really one of a kind and is very nimble when you master the control of it with your body weight transfer.
Kathryn L. - CA / 12.09.2019
What my Half Bike has taught me
1. Keep your eyes on the horizon, trust your body and mind to get you there.
2. You need a kickstart to get the momentum going.
3. Take breaks, pedalling tired is not good.
4. Know your limits, no passing if you don't feel steady enough.
5. It is great to try something new. You don't have to be good at it but you must be having fun.
Kathryn L. - CA / 12.09.2019
I love my Half Bike. The last 4 years I have wanted one but not being able to try one first deterred me. When it popped up on Kickstarter I knew it was time to buy. With my first attempt I managed to fall 3 times in 10 minutes, safety gear is essential to start. I did get about 2 turns of the pedals that teased me with how great it would feel when I got it. I did need help putting it together. The videos on learning to ride it were not very helpful. Someone that knows how to ride is faking being a beginner. You mention that having a slight downhill is good to start. Momentum is needed wether from a slight decline or having one foot on the pedal and pushing off with the other foot a few times to get rolling. Someone online had a good video on how to turn. Just start with tilting your head, it is so easy to overcorrect and over think steering at first. It has really helped my posture as well. Being balanced and straight is essential to being able to steer easily. My core is way stronger now. It just feels like fun not exercise. Soon snow will fly and I will have to wait for months to ride again.

I bought a scooter but never bought a bike before. When I first saw this halfbike, “wow what a cool bike that i dont need to sit on it and i could run like a runner with fun”! Then I bought it right away and only took 4 days to be delivered to my home. I couldn’t wait to try so finally it took me 10 mins to ride straight line. I am still trying to figure out how to turn without fall. This is really fun and very cool bike without taking much space to store at home that is good for small city in HK. Thanks guys for creating such an amazing bike with so much fun!

I am a recent Halfbiker but I am now pretty confident to ride various terrains, including parks, trails, parking lots, schools, shopping centers, church lots, and just street sidewalks.
Atlanta is very hilly and has very few open areas but riding in parks and bike trails is great.
I usually stop if I hear people say something when I ride past them or if they look interested. I get off the bike and tell them what it is, where I got it, how it rides and how much FUN and FITNESS I get out of my rides.
People usually get their mobile phone cameras out and snap pictures of me and my Halfbike.
I am a 55yo guy but I love my Halfbike, I am confident and good on it now, and I get so happy thinking about riding, then riding it, then relaxing after a great ride.

After two weeks I bought my very first bike and I really fell in love with my Halfbike! It didn’t take me more than 15 mins to learn how to use it. Even my 8 year daughter learn to ride in less than 30 mins. Now my daughter wants her own Halfbike. Kudos to Halfbike team! Well done guys!

Saludos.

Absolutely love riding my halfbike - it is a blast. I get tons of stares and questions - and a lot of 'COOL man - what is that thing?'. I will admit that I was hesitant to purchase due to all the comments on learning curve. I watched a ton of Youtube videos and also the instructional videos on the website. Once it arrived, my wife kept egging me on to get on it. First nice day - hopped on it and went. Honestly, it took me about 20 minutes to feel comfortable on it. For me - a 50 year old dude - was able to pick it up pretty quickly. Like I said earlier - this thing is a blast. Make it happen and pick one up - you will not be disappointed Also a great leg workout - and a great workout overall!

my reasons for owning a HALFBIKE.
the freedom to just get up and go , my half bike is either in the boot of my car or its coming away with me on get away breaks abroad , its light weight portable and always reday to be ridden,
the other reason is the exercise side of my HALFBIKE
unlike a conventional bike it take more to ride a HALFBIKE as you are stood up to ride it and it use's more of the body muscles to ride , main areas i feel after riding is forearms / arms / shoulders / body core / thighs and calf's
cant imagine life now without my HALFBIKE

I recently acquired a medium sized halfbike with the 3 speed hub. I am an avid cyclist and an outlier with both DF and Recumbent bicycles. I became adept at the halfbike in about 20 minutes in a parking lot. I immediately felt new muscles working, including my core and upper body. I have ridden as far as 6 miles in the first week and really enjoyed the bolt upright riding position. I live on a busy bike path and had no problems maneuvering around joggers and baby carriages. I like the bike's minimalist vibe and simple solutions for folding and braking. I am thrilled to have added the halfbike to stable of human powered vehicles. I am excited to experience future variations of the halfbike and will watching its evolution with great anticipation.

I bought my second hand halfbike on ebay, and I absolutely love it. I use it for commute to work 9km one way - so 18km of halfbiking per day!
First reason why I love halfbike: I can combine the commute and have a workout at the same time - gives me more free time for my other training, chilling, and my friends and family.
Second reason why I love it: it is amazing workout. I am a long distance runner (ran mountain marathon) and road cyclist (cycled 230km in one day). But my legs and core were shattered after first 2 days of halfbiking. I can't wait to see the impact of long term halfbiking on my fitness performance.
Third reason why I like halfbike: it is such a good fun. I am commuting to work and have feeling that I am on spinning class. I can use my headphones which I never have while I am cycling - for safety reasons.
For me halfbike was super easy to learn, it took me around 10 minutes to feel comfortable while riding it (I am 27 and was training martial arts, running, cycling since I was 10). My 3 friends just stood on the halfbike and rode off from first attempt. Highly recommended product.

This is truly a game changer.
Well no, it´s a life changer! ;)
I am having so much fun riding it, especially after work to relax and cool down.
Although the beginning was very hard; especially the first 2 days. But then it made "click" - and since then, every day I simply enjoy and my driving improved constantly.
Go for it people, you gonna love it!

I have wanted a halfbike since I first discovered them online. Since I had previous commitments I've had to wait. My halfbike arrived last week and I have been out on it everyday, even my partner has had a go. It's challenging, it uses muscles that you wouldn't normally use and when you're on it , the brain is asking what is your body trying to do !?
However I love it , it'll keep me more fit and more active and l will be using it for travelling to work instead of my road bike (once I'm more confident )
It's a head turner , I'm stopped alot and asked about it, most people say it looks hard work - it is I say but you are also having fun at the same time. Kinda like running / cycling and a crosstrainer in one.
Thank you very much, I wish I bought one sooner but I was in the middle of buying a house !!
Best regards !

I was tentative about buying a Halfbike. I had read so many reviews that intimidated me with tales of disappointment regarding how difficult it was to ride one. There were reviewers who stated that they had tried and tried but could never get the hang of it, that they weren’t in peak shape, that they weren’t young anymore. Hey, wait! That’s me! I’m forty-one, not young anymore and not in peak shape. But the videos made it look so easy! I was conflicted. I put off the purchase for months because of those reviews. Eventually, I thought, ‘What the hell!’ I had been looking for a fun way to get out and exercise for a while and decided to make the purchase. The worst thing that could happen is that I’d be out the shipping costs. The bike arrived fast, two days after I purchased it online. I watched the video tutorial on how to put it together. It was so easy! I took it down to the beach and gave it a try, thinking that I was going to fall on my face based on what I had read in those negative reviews. Much to my surprise, it only took me a couple of tries to be able to awkwardly peddle without stepping off the bike. The key is momentum and balance and understanding my center of gravity. After an hour I was able to get going faster. The next day, I was going top speed in third gear, the wind in my hair and people staring at the Halfbike as I whizzed by. My legs burned the next day. My muscles are definitely still getting accustomed to standing and peddling. It’s a great workout! My only complaint about the entire Halfbike experience is that there wasn’t a place for me to try it out before I purchased it. So, I became a Halfbike Ambassador so other people in my area could try one out for themselves and see how fun and easy they are to ride. I highly recommend Halfbike, from customer service to shipping to assembly to, of course, riding one. It’s a good company and a good product. Can’t wait to see what they come up with next!

The halfbike is really really fun. It is also really really hard. Much harder than I thought it would be. I got mine late in summer, practiced a few times a week, and put it away during the fall/winter. It's just starting to get nicer here so I took it back out today for about 45 minutes.
I'm at the stage where it feels like this is NEVER going to get easier. Im giving myself credit for effort, I finally am able to go in a straight line on a completely flat surface and can turn left and right if I have enough room. But the amazing maneuverability and comfort of the people in the video feels very far away. But I'll keep trying.

One of the best experiences since my childhood.
U can't compare to nothing else U have tried before.

It is always a pleasure in spite of the various weather conditions.
Let' s try it, and U will love it!

As a Zumba® Fitness instructor I find the Halfbike a superb workout combination. Riding a Halfbike is a bit strange and not really easy in the beginning but once you get used to it you'll never regret on purchasing one. Halfbike is every cent worth it. It's really - really - really FUN !
So for those who doesn't have one yet. Try the Halfbike. And you'll see :-)
Thankful and so glad for this wonderful invention !!!

The ultimate biking experience. Challenging both your muscle and balance, while at the same time improving your creativity and awareness. All you need for a good start of the day is to take your Halfbike out for a ride. Things feel and look different afterwards!

I love the Halfbike because it's a fantastic combination of an upright bike and a scooter. You get a nice workout like a bike with the ease of storage like a scooter. It also works one's core/balance really well, which is a total bonus (though keep in mind it may take a few days to get the hang of it). Once you get rolling, it's smooth and swift sailing!
Jason P. - US / 13.10.2017
The halfbike has been a great experience. From receiving the package to building it to trying it out the first time to now being an ambassador to still learning it and getting used to it. It definitely is a new way of seeing the world somehow. It's like learning to bike or walk or balance all over again.
Fun times ahead. Can't wait to be zipping around all over on this thing.

Arctic ride - Done!
I've been riding my Halfbike since Sep 15th 2016 on every week day 6 km total of commuting.
Mostly paved and some gravel surfaces in all kinds of weather conditions from sunshine to heavy rain and lately also in frozen conditions i.e. below zero temperatures - real winter.
All in all - frozen surfaces with fresh snow are too difficult I'd say down right impossible to ride. See pictures!
Initially it took me good three quarters of an hour to ride the first 5 meters. Online tutorials were a valuable help.
So a few details/ideas for you boys to ponder on:
Front wheel (high guality brand) is ok, but I've had 4 punctures on rear wheels so far. There might be a need for improvement. Maybe rougher type for snow and gravel?
Handlebar grips could be more of a rounded end type (I have worn off the original ones over the winter)
You have added fenders - great - I'll order them right away!
What about a larger gear ratio - a 7 speed hub?
So my first summer with Halfbike is coming - I'm so excited ;-)

I've been riding my Halfbike for over a year now. Nothing like a riding a Halfbike to feel free, enjoy the open air, experience complete exercise, surprise everyone and feel balance. It is so difficult to describe what you feel when you Get It and all the movement flows in perfect coordination! You just have to feel it yourself. You will never regret having YOURS. The Kolenina Team completes the perfect experience with such an amazing Service. Congratulations!

Absolutely love my halfbike. It's nothing like traditional cycling - a totally new feeling. The way it moves, the ability to make sharp, repetitive turns, the way it feels - pure perfection. Not to mention the physical aspect of riding a halfbike for 2-3 hours - a proper training for the whole body.
All in all, I truly enjoy riding my halfbike. Thank you guys for coming up with this ingenious invention! Keep up the good work. All the best.

Putting the fun in exercise!!
I didn't expect this to be so much fun. Most of my family tried to talk me out of purchasing a halfbike with the typical excused people give a woman of 62... "you're too old, it's too dangerous , you could get hurt."
To be honest the first time I got on my new halfbike I secretly wondered if they were right. It wasn't what I expected. Day two was better and I was riding but a bit cautiously.
Nowadays, my biggest problem is the people who stop me to ask about the bike. "It looks like such fun!" is the comment I always get to which I respond "it is!!"
I ride about 6-8 miles a day for exercise and just love it. It has put the fun back into part of my routine and my family has given up on telling me I am too old.
It's the best investment in me I ever made!!
Vassil D. - BG / 18.04.2017
At first glance the halfbike looks like a mix between a bicycle and a scooter, but looks can be deceiving. It feels different enough from both.
Riding the halfbike is a unique experience, and one where knowing how to ride a regular bicycle does not help you learn. The key is that your hands and arms are not used just to steer and control the halfbike, but to some extend to power and stabilise it. Your core is much more involved, especially your obliques. When you press on the pedal, you must counteract by pushing with your hands in the opposite direction, and it's easier if you do it before you put your full weight on the pedal. This results in a great workout.
It's funny how almost everyone trying for the first time fails to ride for more than a couple of meters. However, with practice, there is a certain elegance when you see an experienced halfbiker twisting their body slaloming by invisible obstacles, gliding on the asphalt like a fish in water.
This does not come right away, but there are a couple of adjustments that help. Adjust your posture so you're slightly bent forward and pull your hips back in order to shift some weight away from the knees. When you turn or stop, you should lean to the side or to the back respectively to counteract the momentum. Also, at least for me it's a bit easier if I lean on the handlebars instead of trying to pull them when I try to stabilise the halfbike on every pedal push.
There is something which is more difficult than it looks like it should be- riding when the road is slightly inclined to one side. Since the angle of the back wheels relative to the surface determine how you turn, this means that going straight requires you to hold the handlebars parallel to the road, so slightly at an angle, and there's pressure to turn.
One thing I still don't trust is the brakes. Due to the high centre of gravity it's not safe to brake the front wheel so the only option left is to brake the rear wheels. This is not very efficient and at least on my halfbike produces a screeching sound as the brakes temporarily lock up.
Still, overall it's a very fun experience, it's portable and usable, and I alternate commuting with my bike and halfbike. While the halfbike will not replace the bicycle, it has its place and I have no intention to stop using it.

We bought our Halfbike last summer and were surprised how easy it was to ride: it took me a couple of attempts before I could cover a reasonable distance. My daughter simply drove straight off. Maybe because we’re skilled cyclers anyway in the low lands :-). Only sharp curves require practising. In the beginning, we got off with sore arms as we were balancing the wrong way.
We dot not have nice boulevards in the vicinity to ‘cruise’ so we use our Halfbike for our workouts. I often go for a ride with my daughter: we take a mountain bike along and swap regularly. We easily cover 20 km.
During these trips, we draw a lot of attention as hardly anyone knows what we’re driving on. With summer ahead of us we can work on our higher average speed: happy that we bought the 3 gear version.

What I like about the halfbike is that it is FUN while you are getting a MEAN workout. Cardiovascular & muscle building!
Tom P. - US / 11.04.2017
I Love my Half Bike! I am 54 years young and taught myself how to ride (with turning!) in about an hour. I use it as a workout machine rather than a way to bike from point A to point B, although on occasion i do that as well. I find that 40-50 minutes of riding provides an excellent cardio and core muscle workout. The build quality is second to none! When casually riding the experience is just so great, nothing like it. Not running and not biking..hard to explain unless you have ridden the half bike. People see you riding and can't help but turn and watch and smile.
I would recommend to anyone. Wish you could still get the water deflector kit for the front and rear wheels!! A travel bag of some sort would also be great for taking on a plane.
Karen D. - AU / 11.04.2017
I love my Halfbike! It is so much fun and attracts so much attention. It was totally worth shipping it halfway round the world (to Australia).
It does ride VERY differently than anything else, so seriously don't underestimate the value of time, patience, and the odd YouTube video as you get the hang of it!
My Halfbike is perfect, and I can't recommend it highly enough.

So it was February last year when I received my Halfbike and I'm amazed at how hard it was to master in the beginning. Today riding it is as fluent and fun as I'd seen it done in the original advertisements. I've learned just as many other have to relax and forget about all you know about bikes and skateboards. The half bike will perform brilliantly once you let go and trust it to stay underneath you. This is by far my favorite pastime. It is still a conversation piece a year plus later.

Thanks again for the great bike...I'm a sport teacher in a secondary school in Switzerland and I use the halfbike with my pupils. Most of them find it quite difficult and challenging, but they like the challenge and so it's often used during outdoor activities.
Thanks for your vision and the realisation of it.
With best regards, Martin

I have my halfbike for 2 months now and I'm very happy about it.
I ride about two times every week for about 10 to 15 km. I find it very amusing to workout this way. I already lost 10 kgs (together with a healthy foodplan).
It doesn't feel like a workout but a very pleasant ride.
Edmond KO - BG / 10.04.2017
It's an awesome experience, real attention grabber. At the same time riding difficulty makes it something special, because it absorbs you into the learning curve. Great for parks and plazas, but not that great to use it as a commute vehicle, for longer distances (at least in my city - Sofia, Bulgaria). It requires a good physical shape of the rider to maintain balance and speed, but it helps to get fit because the whole body is involved.
I recommend it to all people that are looking for new and unique experiences.
John B. - GB / 06.04.2017
This was my first ever pledge on Kickstarter so unsure what I was letting myself in for. To my utter delight, I received two professionally built bikes (one for me, one for my wife) that were fantastically different to anything out there. I loved the quirky design and bold colour scheme (orange and yellow) against the black backdrop and the wooden handle. I love riding it despite the fact that I have not fully mastered this yet. My wife loves hers even more and the tricksy balancing act has not put her off at all.
Simply put, they are soooo cool!

Hi halbike team !
Just a quick note to tell you that after 3 weeks of halfbiking every day to go to work (see picture !), I have great fun with my halfbike !
You really did a very cool product and mastering turns is a real blast !
It took me about 10 days to master the bike so it’s pretty fast to pick up !!
Congrats to the full team and keep up the good work !!
Happy new year from Pepper robots who warmly welcomed my halfbike near my desk

Dear Halfbike team,
My halfie arrived today and it was totally worth the wait. I managed to put it together on my own and took it to the park for a test ride. I love it - the best bit is that I'll have to learn to ride it properly and hope it will make me spend more time out and about, getting fit as I go. Well done guys - it was a great idea to combine the movements from biking, skiing and horse-riding - it feels like it will definitely improve my balance and firm my core. Well, if I ride it regularly of course. But I have enjoyed it greatly even in the first clumsy tests, so hope to continue the exercise as often as possible until I really match those smooth motions from your movies;)
All the best and keep the good work

Hello HalfBike Creators!
Thanks…it has arrived. On Time!….I was late, because I was travelling. I have successfully assembled the bike, had a couple of hours practice before the rain put a stop to it and am now travelling again!
Nevertheless I am absolutely thrilled with it. When I have mastered how to ride - probably in June when the weather should be good, I’ll send you some pics.
By the way I will be 78 years of age by then so maybe one of your oldest fans!
Keep up the good work
Greetings from a Welshman from Wales

I got out on my HB the other day, had it down in less than 5 minutes, went around the block 3 times ( a big block ) and was totally exhausted. For coming up on 64 this year, I did pretty well- loved every bit of it. I'm sure my neighbors are going to think I'm crazy when they see me out on it. I started on flat sidewalk, only jumped off 4 times- then decided to move to the street. The street has a slight incline, I hopped on and coasted downward as I got control of my balance- then started to pedal. By this time I had to turn right, a slight lean and it was done beautifully, many times in 3 laps. Next time, when the street is dry-rain recently, I'll go the other way around. I also must check to see what gear the HB is in. Between the workout and balancing, it was quite a workout, legs and stomach felt it for sure. Love it, have a great day ... ken ( from Laurel, MD-USA ) PS, I shall wear my shirt proudly

Jason F. - US / 06.04.2017
Easily one of the weirdest riding experiences I have EVER had. Also, I must add, easily one of the funnest riding experiences I have ever had! The Halfbike is truly one-of-a-kind and I thoroughly enjoy riding it, although I am still terrible at turning...
Beware, this experience is NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART! In fact it can be very frustrating, but I haven't found it to be dangerous, because your feet and legs are not bound to the bike. Just hop off when the going gets bad, then hop right back on!
Some things to note: I don't particularly like riding this when there is moisture on the ground because of the water that is flung up onto your back (I understand that this will be completely fixed with the new and improved fenders, but to be honest I am going to mention everything I can). Also, the wrap-around light works really well for the front, but when using it for the rear it is pretty wonky to get just right and feel confident that it will both stay on the Halfbike and be visible...
Overall, I'm soooo glad that I backed the Halfbike kickstarter! SO WORTH IT!!! Now back to practicing riding it again... ;)
Leslie S. - US / 05.04.2017
Great job on communication throughout the entire experience. Easy to assemble. Would have preferred more realistic videos and communication about the challenges of learning to ride the halfbike. Perhaps tips on how to overcome the challenges. Even us athletes can't just hop on and start riding like those in the video!
Christof R. - GB / 05.04.2017
The quality of the bike is excellent. Assembly is done within 40 minutes and it took me a couple of hours to get the hang of how to ride this bike (make sure you have enough space, don't try it on your terrace). It's great fun I can't wait for them to sell a childeren's version. Being able to fold down the handle make storage and transport easy.
Danielle G. - US / 03.04.2017
I have not been very successful with riding the halfbike, as I do have knee problems (to include surgery a few years ago). I have let friends ride it, and they loved it! It does require good balance, another one of my problems, which will improve as you ride the halfbike. Overall it is fun and a great conversation starter!

I've been using Halfbike for more that a year now and I absolutely adore everything about it. Moscow is not Bicycle friendly city, so it is very cool for me to have a compact bicycle, easy to carry and fit into public transport. Halfbike is easy to master and very fun to ride. I really don't want to ride a normal bicycle anymore.
